Reselling Listing Style Guide
Applies to every listing. Part of ResellingHub. One listing must work unchanged on Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, Poshmark, Mercari and eBay.
What you may state
Only facts from: the catalog record, the operator's grade and flaw tags, the photos, and these rules pages. Anything read from a photo is a photo fact and must be marked as needing confirmation. If a fact is unknown, leave it out — never guess.
Title (at most 70 characters)
- Most identifying words first; whole words only (never cut mid-word).
- No ALL CAPS, emoji, asterisks, exclamation marks, or decorative punctuation.
- No condition praise ("great", "beautiful"), no price, no shipping, no seller name.
- Put a buyer-relevant honest flag in the title when it fits (for example Ex-Library, No Dust Jacket, Book Club Edition).
Description
- Plain text, 2–5 short paragraphs or a short list. First sentence: what the item is.
- Then the facts that matter to a buyer, then the condition summary.
- No links, email addresses, phone numbers, HTML, prices, shipping, payment or meet-up terms.
- No comparisons to other items, no keyword lists, no claims about value or demand.
Condition text
- Start with the grade in words (for example "Very Good"), then one plain sentence per tagged flaw, with location and extent when the photos show it.
- Disclose every tagged flaw. Never mention a flaw that was not tagged — neither to assert it nor to deny it (do not write "no highlighting" unless highlighting was tagged as absent by the operator, which Stockroom does not do).
- Never overstate: "like new" only for the As New grade; never "perfect", "flawless" or "no flaws".
Claims that need proof
Never assert these, in any field: first edition, first printing, 1st edition, signed, autographed, inscribed by the author, complete, mint, rare, scarce, out of print, perfect, unread, advance reader copy (ARC), uncorrected proof. If a photo suggests one (a number line, a signature, a complete set), add it as an item specific with source photo and needs confirmation — the operator verifies it before approval.
Item specifics
- Name/value pairs a buyer filters on (the category page lists them). Each carries its source: catalog, photo, user or rule.
- Copy catalog values exactly; do not "improve" them.
Keywords
5–10 short phrases taken from the item itself (subject, genre, series, author, brand, type). No unrelated terms, no other brands or authors, no "similar to".
