Live Preview & Daily Notes — Design
Third Obsidian-adoption feature, after Native Wikilinks. Frontend only. Canonical spec: docs/superpowers/specs/2026-10-01-live-preview-daily-notes-design.md.
Live Preview
A Source / Live toggle (toolbar button, command palette, Mod-e), remembered per browser, default Source so existing editors see no change.
In Live mode markdown renders in place while raw syntax shows on the lines you are editing:
- headings sized with the markers hidden; emphasis, strikethrough and inline code styled;
- markdown links and
[[wikilinks]] show only their text; - images and
![[embeds]] render inline (embeds via the embed endpoint); - quotes, callouts (icon and tinted box), rules, bullets and KaTeX math render;
- task checkboxes are clickable — the only edit Live mode makes, as one undo step;
- tables, HTML and plugins stay as source.
Key decisions
- Decorations only: the saved text is byte-identical in both modes; switching never recreates the editor, so undo, selection and folds survive.
- The editor moves to the GFM markdown dialect in both modes so its tree matches the renderer.
- Built only for the visible viewport; failures fall back to plain source, never a blank editor.
- Tables stay source — in-place table editing is the largest risk and Obsidian users tolerate it.
Daily notes
Open today's daily note creates or opens the YYYY-MM-DD page with a long-date title, date, a daily-note tag, and the journal cluster when a hub declares it. No new page type.
